The Story of Tippy Creek Winery
Tippy Creek Winery is a family business, and their story began in December 2009 when Daniel and Lori Richcreek’s children gifted them a wine-making kit for Christmas.
Daniel immediately became invested in the process of winemaking and it quickly became more than a hobby for him. He regularly made wines to give as gifts to friends and family, who started requesting even more of the wine he made.
Turning A Hobby Into A Winery
As the Richcreek’s home garage quickly became too small for the wine production Daniel was invested in, the couple began to dream of opening their own winery. Daniel enrolled in wine-making classes at UC Davis in California and the couple began learning what opening a winery in Northern Indiana would entail.
As regular visitors of wineries throughout Indiana and Michigan, their love for the wine industry grew and they couldn’t wait to share their experiences and love of wine with others. The original plan for the winery was sketched on a local restaurant placemat!
Breaking Ground
On a beautiful Indiana summer night in 2014, the family shared a bottle of Daniel’s wine on the back patio and decided to name the winery they planned to open the following year Tippy Creek Winery.
The name was created to pay homage to the Tippecanoe River running just behind the Richcreek’s property and includes the last half of their name.
In July 2015, the Richcreeks broke ground on the commercial building for the winery and Tippy Creek Winery opened its doors in May 2016, making their dream a reality.
